Is a HSA Right For You?

If you have been looking for health care coverage and have not yet been able to find good quality coverage, you may have heard the term Health Savings Account (HSA). A HSA is a new advantage being offered to Americans to offset the costs of health care. The health savings account has become a way where you can save your money and use it for health care, and still get lower premiums on your health care coverage. How this works is that you put money aside into your tax sheltered HSA, and then you purchase lower cost health coverage with high deductibles. If an emergency arises, or you need health care, you then use the funds from your HAS to cover the cost of your deductibles and your insurance company will pay the rest. For Americans that can afford to put a little bit away, this has become a very cost effective way to get the most affordable and comprehensive health care coverage. The Health Savings Account became a part of American legislation in 2003, but it came in conjunction with the prescription drug benefits through Medicare, so not many Americans really took advantage of this program. With health care costs on the rise up to 30% every single year, this has become a means for any American to put money away into an account that earns interest and can be used for medical expenses. And with health care reform pending, it is a very logical way to get in on lower premiums with an insurance company now, even if that comes at the cost of high deductibles. Americans can today put as much as $3,000 into their HSA every year, and you can use this money to pay for any medical expenses that would not be covered by your insurance policy. This would include co-payments or an increased deductible. You can also use your HSA for expenses that normally wouldn’t be covered by your health coverage such as dental, eyeglasses, chiropractors, and even over the counter medication. When you consider how costs can add up for an American family for eyewear, dental work, co-pays, and even cold and flu medication, $3000 annually in a separate account does not seem like much. In addition, you get the added benefit of comprehensive health coverage at lower premiums so long as your HSA can handle the cost of the high deductible. What many Americans do not understand about the health savings account is that it is your money and technically, you can do what you want with it. It can be withdrawn at any time for any purpose. If you choose to use it for medical expenses, it will be tax free income for you to use as it was intended. If your family experiences financial duress or emergency, you can still use this money for other purposes not medically related, but you will incur a tax penalty. [...]

How Health Reform Will Affect You

Ever since President Obama came to the Oval Office, America has been waiting with baited breath to see if he would come true with his promises to change American health care. And it sounds like he has. If you have heard about all of the amazing changes to health care, but aren’t quite sure what this will mean in your everyday life, read here to see just what changes to health care Obama’s new health care reform have provided. After one of the most heated political debates in decades, Congress has finally passed a health reform policy in March 2010 that will mean universal health care for you over the next four years. Other countries all over the globe, like Canada for instance, offer their citizens public health care that is paid for and administrated by government health agencies. This option was discussed in Congress to meet Obama’s goal of health care for all America. Though the issue of creating a national and public health coverage was not accepted by Congress, that of the universal health care reform was and this is the best news for health care America has seen in some time. Though America’s health care will not be run by the government as is done in many other countries, it will during the next four years mandate national health coverage meaning. What does this mean for you? You will never be denied health care again, and this is how it is going to work. Starting in the year 2014, every citizen and legal resident of the United States is required to have health coverage, and insurance companies will no longer be able to say no to people with pre-existing conditions. Public health care options will not be mandated, but will be available for families that qualify through a program that is being described as “expanded Medicaid”. And though programs such as Medicaid will assist families that fall below federal poverty levels, the government will continue to step in by providing subsidies to American families that earn between 100-400% of current poverty levels. No longer will any American be able to worry about not being able to afford health care. In addition to subsidies, health care reform brings many changes to how insurance companies will be able to work and provide medical coverage. The government is proposing that mandated state-run health exchanges be initiated in order to provide every possible opportunity for affordable health care. Cost share programs are also being instigated, as are health care protection cost gaps being considered to help you and your family get the health care you need. The health care reform policy is known as the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and is designed to protect American families from missing out on valuable health care due to costs. What is pain management?

It’s always interesting to compare how other countries approach the question of treatment. The Brits have the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (shortened to NICE). There were no national standards for treatment so there was a ZIP code lottery, people receiving the care thought best by their neighborhood hospitals. Some did very well. Many did not. But, from 1999, NICE has been responsible for the evaluation of all treatments. It balances patient outcomes against the financial cost, always looking for the best value-for-money. If NICE finds a drug, device or treatment strategy to give poor value, it refuses certification and no public money can be spent on it. This leaves it to those with the cash in hand or an insurance policy to decide whether they will pay for the given treatment privately. In the US, we have no national body to offer clinical guidelines. In theory, this leaves everything to the individual doctors but, in reality, doctors are influenced by the drug companies and device manufacturers. So many hospitals are set up to deliver treatments where there is no evidence they are effective. For example, the Brits believe in pain management centers. These are multidisciplinary teams of specialist doctors, therapists, counselors, and nursing professionals. When a patient continues to experience pain after treatment by a specialized hospital department, the local center takes over. The strategy is to review the patient’s medical records looking for anything not done or not done well. If this rediagnosis finds possible remedial work, it is done first. Only when all physical avenues have been exhausted does the center treat the pain itself by a mixture of counseling and drug therapy. The idea is to get the best quality of life possible with the lowest long-term costs. This means pain management without depending on drugs wherever possible. [...]

A future without acne

Did you ever think of leaving all your worries behind? You surely did. Did it ever seem possible? Maybe it did at times, but there are cases and situations when you really don’t have any hope left. It depends on a situation you find yourself in. When you aren’t happy with the way you are it finds reflection in everything you do. You can’t function properly; all you think of is your problem. And it won’t stop until you solve it. Acnes don’t seem like a big deal at all. Compared to cancer they are absolutely nothing. But let’s not hurry with the decisions. It is true when people say that everything that doesn’t let you feel normal is serious. So what is there to do to when acnes have all the control? There is no point in waiting for a miracle. It won’t come. You have to get yourself together and start the battle against acnes. It won’t be easy so get ready for a struggle. Acnes are nasty. They cover the face and make it look like a terrible mask that you want to rip off. Women are so sensitive about their looks and acnes make them so vulnerable and insecure that it is not even worth describing. Everybody can imagine how it is. Acnes make you lose your connection with the world and we mean that people that don’t have enough confidence try to get away and shut out from the world. They have maniac thoughts that don’t let them go on normally. They think everybody looks at them with judgment. They think we laugh. In reality we do understand and have compassion for them. Nowadays you can easily find the treatment for everything. The market is full of cosmetic products and drugs that give us huge promises. All is left for us to do is hope they keep them. Acnes are related to person’s hygiene, so if you don’t want to seek for remedies better follow the rules while they are still applicable. Don’t eat spicy foods and stay away from oil if you know you are allergic to it in some way. Don’t let yourself take drugs you know nothing about without doctor’s advice or consultation. [...]
